This is a clip from the original Bauhaus production, as an opener for the beyond-jazz band, Third Plane. Dave Sockeye can be seen taking a photo from the rear of the bar. In this production, Wanda wore two masks, pulling one off to reveal another Wanda inside.
Here Wanda has peeled away the masks to reveal her youthful days, when she explored the implications of loving Jesus. It was a passion play, of sorts.
My approach to religion is from the perspective of one who grew up without it, has no need for it, and wonders what's the big deal, anyway? So I look at the stories and analyze/respond to them as I would any other story. In other words, they are fair game to examine for signs of patriarchal oppression, tendencies toward repressive sexual politics and other forms of abuse and violence.
