I have always had a fascination for growing things. As a child, I remember tagging along after my father as he planned, dug beds, planted, tended, and harvested various green growing things. No matter where I have lived, I have managed to maintain some sort of garden.
Painting, sculpting and especially drawing are things I have done all my life. The drawing of the Qaballa (also known as Kaballah or The Tree of Life) represented one year of drawing and research. Study of Qaballa is supposed to lead to the ultimate knowledge, which is "As above, so below." Wow -- how profound. All I got out of it was a really nice drawing -- no deep spiritual insights whatsoever. After finishing that, I left Akron. I was 25 years old. My drawing style changed considerably as I began to learn about physical acting techniques. I adopted a more improvisational style of drawing that gives me direct feedback about body work and image.
